  This session will introduce you to Physical Computing, Arduino and how Arduino can be integrated with the Java platform. The session will include:

  Part1 - Java EE 6 - Why and how J2EE became popular again :
  Every new Java EE version is important but this one different. It is probably the first one that is powerful enough to stand on its own and not require any third party framework. Its web profile, standardized dependency injection, restful web services and much much improved EJB, JSF, servlet and JPA all make for a great standard basis for enterprise applications.

  Proposal : Java EE 6 was released at the end of 2009 in its final form with GlassFish v3, the open source application server, implementing the entire specification in a modular and developer-friendly environment. Now is a great time for understanding what's new in this specification and how it can and will make a difference in your enterprise developments.

  This session will introduce Java EE 6, its new concepts such as the web profile, managed beans, CDI 1.0 (context and dependency injection), JAX-RS 1.1 (restful web services), and BeanValidation 1.0 but also cover what's new in EJB 3.1 (singleton, simplified packaging and a lot more), JSF 2.0 (facelets, ajax, composite components), servlet 3.0 (optional web.xml, fragments, async, ...).

  Time permitting, this session will insist on illustrating new concepts and features with demos using GlassFish, the Java EE reference implementation and a number of different IDEs.
  
  
  
  Part 2 - Familiarization with Glassfish:
  GlassFish is way more than a reference implementation. It's fully buzzword-compliant (JavaEE, Modular, OSGi, WebSockets, embeddable, ... ) but more importantly it strikes a balance between cool stuff and management-compatible (in fact it is both). See how GlassFish can work for you, with or without Java EE 6.

Une de mes lectures de l'été, relativement simple et rapide à lire, est le livre de Bill Burke consacré aux services REST, illustré par l'utilisation de JAX-RS. Un livre synthétique donc et de bon rapport qualité/prix je pense.

Premiers dilemmes pour l'organisation de mon agenda des 3 journées de conférences Devoxx09. On fait passer l'affect devant l'intérêt professionnel, on tente les nouveautés, on revient en arrière, on inverse, on équilibre... bref, tâche sensible.

J'ai soigneusement évité les Partner Slot, afin d'éviter les lourdeurs commerciales ;-). Des zones d'ombre subsistent, et si vous pouvez m'aider à faire un choix, n'hésitez pas !

Après plusieurs années de repos, j'assisterai cette année au Devoxx'09 qui se tiendra à Anvers (Belgique). Cette chance m'est donnée par le Virtual JUG de Developpez.com, et par mon employeur Ausy Luxembourg PSF.

Enregistrement déjà effectué. Reste l'hôtel et l'agenda des 3 jours de conférences à dresser. Comme lors des autres événements, je tenterai de suivre des conférences au contenu différent. Beaucoup de choses intéressantes cette année: Cloud computing, RIA (JavaFX), SDK 7 et JEE 6, SOA/ESB, Scala, Wicket, Spring 3, Google Android. Et comme les autres années, j'animerai mon blog personnel, mon blog developpez.com, et twitter (@pierrechauvin, @developpez), et certainement un article plus dense par la suite.

  The demand continues to grow for rich interactive content, applications, and services that run on a variety of clients. Rich Applications have achieved a new degree of sophistication with requirements to add multimedia and animation. With the JavaFX SDK and the latest updates of Java SE 6 it is possible to incorporate innovative elements of rich client applications into existing Java software with minimum effort, enabling consistent user experiences on the desktop, mobile devices, TV, and other consumer platforms.
  

  This talk provides a glimpse into cross-screen applications development using JavaFX libraries such as vector graphics and animation and media applications with native audio and video. Additionally, this session will illuminate the JavaFX SDK delivering support for simplified application development. We'll also cover the latest announcements about support for JavaFX Mobile from the likes of LG and Sony-Ericsson.
  

  The session will also include some demonstrations that show that JavaFX truly is for "all the screens of your life".

  Rich Internet Applications - RIA - do require a strong service access and data access layer located on the back-end, just as traditional or web based applications. It is therefore essential to combine desktop technologies and server technologies in order to provide fast, efficient and secure access to your data.
  
  This talk will show how to combine desktop technologies, such as JavaFX™ technologies, and back-end technologies, like web services and REST based services to build state of the art desktop applications.
  
  We will go through a very simple example of REST data retrieval and a Java FX graphical representation of these data.
  
  

  We will use the following technologies :
  

  - RESTful web service and JSR 310 (Jersey) API on the server side
  - JavaFX on the client side
  
  
  The JavaFX application will asynchronously poll RESTful web services to collect data that will be used to dynamicaly update the client rich UI.

  This talk will introduce basic cryptography mechanisms such as one-way hash functions, encryption, signature, public key cryptography, certificate etc ... in order to let everyone catch up with these very often used but rarely understood technologies. After having described the theoritical and the mathematical concepts used by modern cryptography, this talk will demonstrate how to apply these in your Java applications. We will show how to use the Java Cryptography Architecture framework and Sun's Java Cryptography Extension providers to actually write your own data encryption or data signature code.

  The OWASP Top Ten provides a powerful awareness document for web application security. It lists the top ten most critical web application security vulnerabilities, and for each provides explanation, examples, means of verification and recommendations to avoid it. "Adopting the OWASP Top Ten is perhaps the most effective first step towards changing the software development culture within your organization into one that produce secure code."

  Avec Java SE 5, le JDK s'est enrichi avec un ensemble d'outils permettant d'inspecter l'activité des JVM en terme de configuration, de mémoire et de threads parmi lesquels la célèbre JConsole.
  Avec Java SE 6u7, c'est encore un pas en avant qui est fait pour le rapprochement entre les équipes de développement et d'exploitation : L'intégration de VisualVM annonce une nouvelle génération d'outil de diagnostic des JVM...

  Today's applications are getting more and more distributed everyday
  and it is well-known that distributed programming is hard. With
  Hazelcast though, distributed programming is easy and lots of fun.
  Common reaction of Hazelcast users is 'Ooh my God, this cannot be that
  easy'. Hazelcast is an open source, highly scalable, transactional,
  distributed/partitioned implementation of queue, map, set, list, lock
  and executor service for Java.

C'est un peu au hasard de mon butinage quotidien que je suis tombé sur la forge discrètement lancée par Sun Microsystems: Kenai. En fait j'avais surtout en tête SourceForge (allez savoir pourquoi) et Google Code, mais les rapides benchmarks ne m'ont pas beaucoup inspirés. Étant Sun-addict, j'ai donc opté pour Kenai comme plateforme de développement pour mes projets personnels.

Au niveau des fonctionnalités, sans doute Kenai est-il moins complet que l'antédiluvien SourceForge, mais il a l'avantage des jeunes projets: repartir from scratch. On fait dans l'épuré, le simple:

• Hébergement de code source : Mercurial ou Subversion,
• Outils de collaboration: forums par projets, mailing lists, wikis, téléchargements
• Gestion des bugs avec Bugzilla, et bientot (espérons-le) Atlassian JIRA,
• Gestion des groupes et sécurité, création de projets multiples, possibilité de "suivre" un projet,
• Licensing : par défaut 9 licences sont recommandées (Apache, BSD, Eclipse, GPL, LGPL, Mozilla, etc.) mais une soixantaine est supportée.

Technologiquement Kenai s'appuie sur la production de Sun Microsystems, c'est à dire JRuby (Ruby On Rails) et Glassfish (v2), hébergement sur SunFire T2000, SunFire X4500 et OpenSolaris "Nevada". j'espère que les fonctionnalités attendues seront rapidement implémentées, tout comme le code source mes projets perso d'ailleurs ... Pour inscrire un projet, il vous faut une invitation (version beta).

Le serveur Open Source conforme Java EE 5, initié par Sun Microsystems Inc ( attention, NASDAQ: JAVA ;-)) est désormais disponible dans une version V2 majeure. Cette dernière n'est pas anodine et espère amener Glassfish sur le devant de la scène des serveurs d'applications Java EE, et prendre quelques parts de marché. Sa version commerciale, Sun Java System Application Server 9.1 hérite naturellement de ce nouveau build.

Des efforts conséquents ont été réalisés et packagés avec cette release, la rendant plus adequat pour une exploitation en environnement de production "critique". Ainsi des améliorations sensibles ont été faites :

• Optimisations générales des performances (notamment au démarrage),
• Alternate docroots,
• Reconfiguration dynamique du Web Container,
• Support de la JSR 199 : Java(TM) Compiler API, concernant la compilation in-memory des pages JSP,
• Réplication des sessions HTTP,
• Meilleur support de l'internationalisation (I18N),
• Virtual server security realms,
• Ajout de fonctionnalités de clustering et HA,
• Microsoft Interoperability avec WSIT, Metro WS Framework,
• Console d'administration qui utilise désormais JSFTemplating et Woodstock JSF components
• Supporté dans Netbeans 6.0 Beta 1 !

La sortie de NetBeans 6.0 en version finale approche. En atteste le programme NetCAT (NetBeans IDE 6.0 Community Acceptance Testing program), qui invite les utilisateurs de l'outil à donner un retour sur les premières béta, et participer à son amélioration de manière intense.
